Celebrating Paper Bag Day at The Standard Public School
At The Standard Public School, we believe that every small step towards sustainability can create a big impact. On 12th July 2025, the school observed Paper Bag Day with the goal of spreading awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution and encouraging eco-friendly alternatives.
The celebration was thoughtfully planned to engage students across various grades. The younger students from Grade 3 enthusiastically participated in a hands-on activity where they crafted vibrant and creatively designed paper bags using recycled materials. Their colourful creations not only reflected their artistic talents but also highlighted the importance of reusing and reducing waste.
Meanwhile, students from the higher grades took the stage to share thought-provoking insights on the harmful effects of plastic bags. They spoke about how plastics, particularly single-use plastics, take hundreds of years to decompose and pose serious threats to wildlife, oceans, and human health. Their speeches emphasized the urgent need for adopting sustainable alternatives and making conscious daily choices.
Adding more depth to the celebration, the science teachers held special sessions in their classes to discuss the environmental impact of plastic pollution. They explained how replacing plastic with biodegradable materials, like paper, can help in preserving our planet for future generations. The discussions also covered practical ways students can contribute to a cleaner and greener Earth.
Though brief, the celebration of Paper Bag Day was insightful, educational, and inspiring. It served as a gentle reminder that change begins with awareness—and that even small actions, like using a paper bag instead of a plastic one, can make a meaningful difference in protecting our environment.
